back garden design

Owning a garden can be a great way to give yourself a hobby and to even save money on flowers and produce. With the use of a back garden you will be able to have your own side project at home that is not only useful & functional (think of all the BBQ time you can have with friends & family), but beautiful as well. With that being said, it is important that you ensure that you follow the tips below to ensure that you are able to create a functional and beautiful back garden that will last for an extended period of time.

Tip 1: Choosing the Location

The most important aspect to any type of garden is choosing a location that is relatively sunny. You will want to find a spot in your backyard that gathers at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. You will also want to ensure that you select an area that enables your plants to have good drainage. Another factor to consider is if there is a water source nearby. You won’t want to have to carry a hose a long distance from your house to your garden.

Tip 2: Consider Trellises and Stalks

If you are growing plants and/or vegetables that normally grow vertically, do not force them to grow horizontally. The reason for this is that the majority of vertical plants require an abundance of space when growing horizontally, thus minimizing you’re planting capabilities. Instead, consider using trellises and stalks to allow your plants to grow in minimal ground space. You can even consider using fencing and twine to affix the plants so that they can sufficiently grow.

Tip 3: Purchasing Tools

There are few tools that you will need in order to sufficiently maintain your garden. With that being said, it can be a very cost effective hobby. Some of the tools that you will want to consider buying when you are making your back garden include: spade, rake, trowel, shovel, and a hoe.

If you have enough spare cash you should invest in a ride on mower. They are expensive but worth the money – you might be able to pick up a pre-owned one on sites such as Ebay.

Tip 4: Leveling Ground

The best type of ground to build your back garden on and to plant in is level ground. It’s far easier to plant and irrigate soil that is on leveled ground in comparison to sloping ground. If you find that you are unable to plant on level ground, plan your rows horizontally along the slope rather than vertically. This will help to ensure that your soil doesn’t wash away while you are irrigating.

Tip 5: Remember to enjoy it when you’re done.

Keep a separate area in your garden for where you want to lounge and enjoy on the hot summer days. Put some patio furniture or any other type of outdoor furniture into your garden so that you have a nice little area where you can entertain friends. I also recommend buying some of the latest garden food appliances such as an electric smoker or pellet grill so that you can have your dinner outside on the nice days alfresco style!!
